1. What is JENOLITE Anti-Rust Primer used for?

It’s a specialist metal primer designed to provide long-lasting protection against rust and corrosion. It forms a strong, matt finish that adheres to metal surfaces and provides the ideal base for topcoats.

2. Which surfaces can it be applied to?

Suitable for use on iron, steel, and aluminium surfaces. It’s perfect for automotive applications, gates, railings, garden furniture, tools, and other metalwork.

3. Does it prevent rust from returning?

Yes. The primer’s anti-corrosive formula actively resists rust formation and provides an effective barrier against moisture and oxygen, helping prevent future corrosion.

4. Can I paint directly over it?

Yes. Once fully cured, you can apply water-based or oil-based topcoats directly over the primer. It creates an ideal surface for finishing paints to adhere to.

5. How long does it take to dry?

The primer is touch dry in just 30 minutes, can be recoated after 20 minutes, and achieves full hardness after approximately 12 hours.

6. What colour finish does it leave?

It dries to a Red Oxide matt finish, providing both an attractive appearance and an effective rust-resistant base for overcoating.

7. How do I apply the primer?

  1. Stir the paint thoroughly before use.
  2. Brush or roll on in smooth, even strokes.
  3. Apply up to two coats, allowing around 20 minutes drying time between coats.

    For best results, ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from grease, rust, and loose paint before application.

8. Can it be sprayed on instead of brushed?

Yes. The product can be thinned and sprayed using standard equipment if preferred. Apply several light coats for even coverage.

9. How much coverage can I expect?

Approximately 8–10 square metres per litre, depending on surface texture and application method.

10. Is it suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. The formula provides excellent moisture resistance and durability, making it ideal for both interior and exterior metal surfaces.

11. Can it be used over rust converter or rust remover?

Absolutely — it’s the perfect partner for JENOLITE Rust Remover and Rust Converter, sealing and protecting treated surfaces to prevent rust from returning.

12. How should I store it?

Store in a cool, well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and frost. Reseal tightly after use to prevent the paint from drying out.

1. Apply directly to a cool surface
Remove all traces of oil or grease. Remove old paint and loose rust with steel wool or wire brush. Stir well before use, so that a smooth, uniform mix is obtained. Brush on in smooth strokes. Coat the surface with a maximum of 2 even layers, allowing 20 minutes to dry between layers.

2. Allow to dry
Allow at least 4 hours before use, full cure/hardness is obtained after 12 hours.

3. Storage & Reuse
